In conjunction with World Habitat Day (October 5, 2015), Bank of America launched its second Habitat for Humanity global build. During this week employees around the world built affordable housing and participated in community revitalization projects. Projects took place in 75 communities, across 7 different countries, and involved approximately 2,000 of our employees.

“Access to stable, affordable housing is foundational to healthy, thriving communities,” said Andrew Plepler, Bank of America’s environmental, social and governance executive. “Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity International, and local affiliates, harnesses the power of financial capital with tremendous employee volunteer efforts to revitalize communities around the world.”

Habitat for Humanity supports hard-working, low-to-middle income individuals and families that face challenges and obstacles to homeownership and accessing affordable housing. Brittney Enoch, 25 years old, of Charlotte, North Carolina is an example. Two years ago, Brittney was working toward becoming a registered nurse while also supporting her young daughter. In 2014, during the first ever Global Build Week, Brittney was joined by Bank of America employee volunteers and representatives from Habitat to help her make her dream a reality. In preparation for home ownership, Brittney put in 250 hours of sweat equity on the homes of others and her own home, and also attended homeowner’s classes, including financial budgeting classes at the local Habitat. “Owning my own home has always been one of my goals for me and my daughter. I’ve always felt that you don’t just settle, because dreams come true if you believe and work hard,” said Brittney.

Habitat for Humanity International is one of the largest housing-focused nonprofits, with a network of over 1,400 local affiliates around the world. We are proud to have partnered with Habitat for Humanity for more than 25 years, investing more than $26 million in philanthropic funding to help create affordable housing since 2002, and employees give approximately 35,000 hours of volunteer time annually. Our employee volunteers support Habitat affiliates through board service, home build initiatives, and financial literacy training for future homeowners.
