What persuaded you to work for Bank of America?

There was an alignment of events that led me to Bank of America. My fiancé was based in Charlotte, NC, the headquarters for the bank and I had recently transitioned from serving eight years in the military and looking for opportunities in Charlotte to be closer to my future wife. After I had connected with a friend who was currently in the Operations MBA Leadership Program, he sold me on pursuing a career here. He spoke highly of the work he did, the great culture and of the military friendliness of the bank.

How would you describe your job to a friend?

I work on a team that supports the trade finance tools in the Global Treasury here by trade, and I mean trade in its literal sense, which is the buying and selling of goods. The tools we support are technology platforms that enable sellers to get paid for the goods sold, buyers to ensure that they receive what was ordered, financing to both seller and buyers, and global sourcing. Our clients rely on my team and the platforms we manage to help calculate risks, digitize processing, secure payment, and optimize working capital to make sourcing and selling globally more efficient. I work daily to make sure that these trade finance tools are functioning efficiently and are upgraded as needed. I also work with my team to ensure that we are staying ahead of technology to keep us at the forefront of the trade technology space.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love the fact that no two days are the same. It was similar to my time in the US Army because every day is an adventure. Most importantly, I enjoy working with my team and my manager. Everyone is eager to help me learn.

What do you enjoy doing in your personal time?

I enjoy spending time with my daughters and wife. They keep me on my toes and whenever I am not with them, I am either at the gym, riding my motorcycle or listening to a podcast. I try to supplement my daily learning here at the bank with hobbies that I enjoy!

In one word, how would you describe Bank of America?

Do you work in a global team?

My current team is scattered around the world. We have teammates in India, California, Maine, Boston, Pennsylvania, and New York City. Our work is global in nature because we are helping facilitate trade between our clients and manufacturers all over the world. In turn, I have teammates that are diverse—in location and background.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

In the future, I see myself being a leader at Bank of America. My goal is to excel in my current role so I may move on to other roles that allow me to further develop my abilities. I have had the good fortune of working for some great leaders so far and I hope to emulate them as I develop.

What advice would you give to students?

If you join us, come eager to learn. Realize that it does not take much from you to smile and display enthusiasm in whatever tasks you are given. It is not necessarily what you are doing but how you do it that makes the difference.
