What persuaded you to work for Bank of America?

As my career plan evolves, I continuously align it to my goals of making an impact, developing myself, and building a network. Bank of America has provided me the opportunity to do exactly that. The importance of our mission to better financial lives has had a profound impact on the global economy. With an ever changing financial climate, there are no shortages of developmental opportunities. The people that drive this organization are smart, inspired, and committed. They are not just my colleagues but they are my confidants.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy connecting with people across the bank. Working for a global organization, it is amazing how connected it can feel. I have met colleagues from various departments whose daily work influences the projects I am supporting. Learning how all the dots connect and understanding the financial process from end-to-end is rewarding but meeting the people that drive those processes, is just as rewarding. Now, when I am tasked with solving a problem, I have a network of experts I can consult to better complete my task.

The programs arrange many networking events and several executive speakers. I find the openness of mentors and colleagues to be exceptionally valuable.

What skills are important for your specific role?

A balance of hard and soft skills are required. In terms of hard skills, managing data is paramount. Tools such as Excel, SQL, SAS, and other various reporting mechanisms will be your best friend. Even if you are not directly working in them, having enough familiarity with those programs  to understand the financial possibilities will help you develop data driven narratives.

Articulating an idea and generating influence is how you get to see your ideas come to life. Nothing can be done without effective communication. Managing your environment and tailoring your communication methods effectively will enhance your experience at BofA.

How does the bank support your development?

The bank develops talent through both formal and informal channels. Formally, we have access to internal trainings and various online curriculum resources, which are useful for developing specific skills. The programs also arrange many networking events and several executive speakers. Informally, I find the openness of mentors and colleagues to be exceptionally valuable. I always have someone to chat with; whether it is specific to the work I am doing or if it is an article I find interesting in the business press. All in all, it is a well-rounded environment to develop business acumen and network contacts.
