I did aerospace engineering at university, so I'm very passionate about planes. I worked in research on my internship and I worked from the aerospace and defense desk. I really enjoyed the internship. It was a great experience. I got the offer at the end of the program and accepted it.
What we do is analyzing aerospace and defense companies in Europe. We have to keep on top of news flow from companies in the US, industry trends. We work very closely with our sales team and our traders. We keep our clients up to date. I like doing the numbers, so working on models, modeling companies, but also speaking to clients. Got a lot of client contact and a lot of client exposure from a very early stage. I get to work on a lot of very interesting projects. For example, just finished a global commercial engine primer, worked very closely with our teams in Japan, in the US, looking at companies that are heavily exposed to commercial jet engines.
The key skills and attributes you need to be a research analyst, you clearly need to be very analytical. You need to be able to present well. You need to be very confident. You need to be able to strike up a relationship and build a relationship with clients. You speak to these people every day and you also need to be quite out-going. The culture is very team oriented so everyone's in constant contact within your team. You're encouraged to work and network in different areas of the bank.
In 5 years, I imagine I'll still be at the bank. I think there is very good structure ahead of me in order to progress my career further.
